Abstract

This ecocritical analysis delves into the fiction of Nadine Gordimer, a renowned South African author celebrated for her exploration of societal complexities. While much attention has been devoted to her examination of apartheid and post-apartheid politics, this study shifts focus to her engagement with environmental themes. Drawing upon the principles of ecocriticism, which scrutinizes literature through an environmental lens, this analysis investigates how Gordimer's narratives interrogate the human-nature relationship. Through close textual analysis, themes such as environmental degradation, resource exploitation, and the consequences of industrialization are explored. By situating Gordimer's work within an ecological framework, this study aims to illuminate the nuanced ways in which her fiction reflects broader ecological concerns, while inviting readers to reconsider their own relationship with the natural world in the face of contemporary environmental challenges.
