Abstract

Research productivity of academic institutions determines their global ranking, which in turn, decides the quality of faculty members, students, and funding they will attract. A faculty member's research profile also determines employment, advancement, and success and recognition. Among the trinity of academic obligations (teaching, research, and service), research performance management is crucial in higher education. This paper uses bibliometric and content analysis to review the empirical evidence on academic research productivity in management field and suggest future research on how academic and research institutions, funding bodies, and government agencies can influence individual, organizational, and national research performance.
